medical care rendered by a specialized team of healthcare professionals
in a warm, caring and supportive manner.
Whether you are at The Breast Center of CMH for a screening mammogram
or in need of a diagnostic procedure, our team of caring female
staff and doctors will see to it that you are well informed of the
options open to you in a manner that is both discreet and compassionate.
We will work with you and your physician to provide you with the

Senographe 2000D All-Digital Mammography Unit
In the spring, CMH purchased the Senographe 2000D, the county's
first
all-digital mammography unit, to augment its state-of-the-art analog
mammography unit in The Breast Center.
The recently FDA-approved Computer Aided Detection (CAD) software
in the
Senographe 2000D serves as a second set of eyes in the detection
of breast
cancer. The $400,000 unit is used in special circumstances, while
Community
Memorial's DMR+ analog mammography units remain available for the
majority of patients having breast examinations. The Breast Center's
staff of
registered nurses and technologists is best able to determine which
mammography unit is best suited for each patient.
There are several major benefits of the Senographe 2000D, including
better
visibility of the breast, particularly near the skin line, the chest
wall and in women with dense breast tissue. Also Senographe 2000D
examinations are quicker-10 to 15 minutes-as opposed to the 30 minutes
for traditional film-based mammograms. The Senographe 2000D also
requires fewer call-backs for patients, due to its ability to generate
images within seconds and its flexibility to magnify and manipulate
those images.

We Understand
We realize that making wise and timely medical decisions can be
both frightening and overwhelming. That is why, here at The Breast
Center of CMH, we provide an atmosphere that is supportive and educational
as well as convenient.
To learn of a potential abnormality is stressful enough without
having to wait days to weeks for test results. That is why, at The
Breast Center of CMH, we will make arrangements for you to receive
results on the day of your procedure.

Proper Prevention
Breast cancer is the second-leading cause of death among women,
exceeded only by cancer of the lung. Early detection is the key
to winning the battle against breast cancer.
It is recommended that by the age of 20 a woman should begin to
perform breast self-exams (BSE) on a monthly basis. This will allow
a woman to familiarize herself with the way her breasts look and
feel. If there are any changes, she should consult her physician.
BSE and mammograms should be performed just after the end of a
woman's menstrual cycle. At this time, hormone levels have normalized
and breasts are not as tender or sore, and a more accurate exam
can be performed.
Baseline mammograms should begin at about age 35 to 40, depending
on family history. After age 40, a mammogram should be performed
each year. If any changes are detected in the interim, the woman
should see her physician immediately.
Studies show a healthy diet can lower your risk of breast cancer.
Some authorities suggest a low fat diet including soy protein as
well as limiting caffeine and alcohol intake.
